Through their unique instrumentation and sound, Bento Box Trio has made a name for themself as one of Norway’s most exciting young jazz bands. With improvisation at the centre, the music draws impulses from classical tradition and contemporary music as well as free jazz. Their music takes form through melodic compositions, which develops further into captivating landscapes; from the fragile and melancholic to the intense and insistent.

Since they met at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim in 2019, the trio has cooperated closely working with the acoustic soundscape, the unique instrumentation and with free improvisation in melodic tunes. With original compositions, the trio is constantly exploring new and fresh approaches to playing. They have already played at many of the central jazz scenes in Norway, such as Oslojazz, Moldejazz, Vossajazz og Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene. This summer the trio were finalists in Jazzintro 2022, a competition for the most promising jazz bands in Norway. There they impressed the jury with communication between the musicians, an original sound and expression and strong mediation towards the crowd. The upcoming fall the trio will tour in larger parts of Norway promoting their new release.

In September 2022, the debut album "Boxed" will be released on Fjordgata Records. The album is a live recording from Dokkhuset in February 2022, and takes shape through nine compositions composed during the trio's study time in Trondheim. The music has a tonal flavor inspired by classical music and Nordic jazz, while the drums bring an exciting contrast through unconventional grooves and intricate patterns. Adam Baldych, Aaron Parks and Esbjörn Svensson Trio are clear sources of stylistic inspiration for the trio's music and sound.
